A Dust Emission Model for Very Young Galaxies: Expected Properties and Far Infrared Diagnostics
نویسنده
چکیده
Dust plays crucial roles in galaxy formation and evolution. In the early epoch of galaxy evolution dust is only supplied by supernovae (SNe). With the aid of a new physical model of dust production by SNe, we constructed a model of dust emission from forming galaxies. We show the evolution of the spectral energy distribution (SED). Then we adopt this model to a local starbursting dwarf galaxy SBS 0335−052. Further we discuss the SEDs of high redshift galaxies, and consider their observational feasibility.

Metallicity Effects on Dust Properties in Starbursting Galaxies
We present infrared observations of 66 starburst galaxies over a wide range of oxygen abundances, to measure how metallicity affects their dust properties. The data include imaging and spectroscopy from the Spitzer Space Telescope, supplemented by groundbased near-infrared imaging. We confirm a strong correlation of aromatic emission with metallicity, with a threshold at a metallicity [12+log(O...
متن کاملExpected Sub-mm Emission and Dust Properties of Lyman Break Galaxies at High Redshift
We investigate expected sub-mm emission and dust properties of the Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs) in the Hubble Deep Field (HDF). The SCUBA Deep Survey (Hughes et al., 1998) provides an upper limit of the 850μm flux densities of the LBGs. With this constraint, we argue that a typical ultra-violet to far-infrared spectral shape of the high-redshift LBGs is rather close to a template spectrum of low...
متن کاملA Semi-Empirical Model of the Infrared Emission from Galaxies
We present a semi-empirical model for the infrared emission of dust around star-forming sites in galaxies. Our approach combines a simple model of radiative transfer in dust clouds with a state-of-the-art model of the microscopic optical properties of dust grains pioneered by Draine & Li. In combination with the STARBURST99 stellar spectral synthesis package, this framework is able to produce s...
متن کاملThe Infrared Spectral Energy Distribution of Normal Star-Forming Galaxies
We present a new phenomenological model for the spectral energy distribution of normal star-forming galaxies between 3 and 1100 μm. A sequence of realistic galaxy spectra are constructed from a family of dust emission curves assuming a power law distribution of dust mass over a wide range of interstellar radiation fields. For each interstellar radiation field heating intensity we combine emissi...
متن کاملIso Observations of Spirals: Modelling the Fir Emission
ISO observations at 200µm have modified our view of the dust component in spiral galaxies. For a sample of seven resolved spirals we have retrieved a mean temperature of 20K, about 10K lower than previous estimates based on IRAS data at shorter wavelengths. Because of the steep dependence of far-infrared emission on the dust temperature, the dust masses inferred from ISO fluxes are a factor of ...
